Intro

Now that that's out of the way..Hey all. Newbie to RageMP here, been playing other GTAV online mods since there aren't any servers on Rage that I like. Have over 600 hours in GTA:O and 1300 hours on a single cops and robbers server in SAMP. I'd like there to be a good cops and robbers server for Rage. I started developing one, but I found the whole development process rather tedious, recreating all the same things that plenty of other servers have no doubt written and chosen not to release. I also realized that even if I wrote all the code, I'd never have the patience to compile all of the spawn points that a server like this needs. So, I figured I'd put my 9-to-5 to good use and see if we can get a good English server made for Rage to waste more time on.

So consider this part contracting request, part contest. Here's the wishlist + servers you can take inspiration from.

General Idea

The core gameplay for this gamemode, which I'll call LSCNR for now, is a lot like GTA:O. You can rob stores or other players / players homes to make money. It diverges from GTA:O in that you can also play as a cop, where you get paid to arrest criminals who have >=3 stars. < 2 star offenses might be failing to rob a store, or robbing less than a thousand dollars from a player, or shooting for a few seconds. Obviously you also throw in some legal jobs, like driving taxis for other players or driving long haul trucking goods around the map, for downtime + low risk money (but legal jobs shouldn't be lucrative enough to stop civilians from robbing things). Throw in growing drugs to give criminals some ability for passive income while they're trying to rob stuff. A banking system (please no deposits from phone) so that you have to put your cash in the bank or risk it being robbed from you. Catch is, since you have to go to the bank to deposit, you could be robbed just outside! Most cops and robbers servers also allow you to own/sell homes to other players to give you a safe place to hide and store your money, but it's not the main focus. The biggest divergence from GTA:O is that randomly DMing people is against the rules, and you will be banned for it. Additionally, murder is an instant maximum wanted level, which means you had better be pretty good at running from the cops before you expect to be able to do it and get away without spending a minute or two in jail, because you'll have a high bonus on your head for cops who arrest you.

Rules / Preferences
NOT RP

NOT RP

UI should be kept simple; preferably using NativeUI, not only because NativeUI looks the best and is easiest to use, but also because you can use it while driving and from a controller.

DMing is against rules, allowed reasons to shoot people / place bounties on them:

They robbed you or your house

They shot you first and you have proof

You are a cop and they are wanted (arrestable, not just ticketable) and not surrendering / you are unable to arrest because they're still in a car or out of range

Cars should be relatively disposable, i.e. no respawning personal vehicles. But being able to lock your car is fine, as long as you're out of it (carjacking is fun!)

Same with guns, getting arrested takes them away as does dying.

Arresting should be emphasized over killing, to allow high cash losses when dying -- in SACNR it was as simple as being within 5 feet and typing /ar. This meant you could almost instantly arrest anyone on foot since diving out of a car in San Andreas was 100% safe. I think this mechanic can stay in for V, as diving out of a moving car is no longer safe.

It'd be nice to always have a dot for everyone on the map, no stealth. I heard in SAMP that this was somewhat of a challenge to code thanks to bandwidth concerns, but not sure if that's true in Rage as well.

I don't care if you already started work on the gamemode before I announced this contest

Code quality will be judged as well, as the server will have to be maintainable / able to be added on-to

Please keep future translations in mind as you're building the server to make it easier to add translations if your server is chosen to host and gets popular. Having already added translations when contest is over likely won't buy you many bonus points since your gamemode has to be good first, and players will likely offer translations if server takes off.

You are OK with your server being released as open source. I'm not saying I'll release the winning ones, and obviously you can ask me not to release special parts like an anticheat you worked hard on or something, and you don't have to share your source before the contest is over to prevent things like spawn location coordinates being given away to someone else in the contest, but your work must be shown to me with an MIT or Apache license. If you're trying to win the fan favourite, I recommend you host a server with your mode or release it open source here.

Don't leave out a moderator spectator system! If your server is ready to deploy to a VPS at the end of the contest, it will likely be judged a lot more favourably than one that still requires much work..

Ranking
Your gamemodes will be judged first on how fun they would be with a few hundred people in them, as well as their polish. That is, is the UI easy to use? Guns/money persistent as they should be? Spawn points / car spawn points / gun shops and robbery points filled out for the world? Another note is that you can feel free to ignore most of the more specific rules for the gamemode. Obviously you have to be able to rob things and run from the police, that's the core of every cops and robbers game mode, but feel free to build what you want if you think it will be fun, or leave out features that can be added later if the server grows more popular. For example, the server "Busted" on the other multiplayer mod would have likely been in the running for a third in this contest, if it were entered, thanks to its polish and great core gameplay. Just remember that it's my voting and these are the choices my favourite CNR server made, but I will try to take others' opinions and arguments into account.

Fan Favorite -- This one's a pure popular vote. When the contest is over, we'll host a poll with all of the gamemodes listed, and whoever gets the most votes wins. Obviously this could amount to a creator popularity contest, but that's the way it goes. Botting not allowed, not sure how we'll enforce this but it will likely be obvious, if we take the toll by making users post a sentence or two making their choice.

But how will I get paid?

PayPal is what I imagined when I started planning this contest, but I've since learned some might prefer cryptocurrency. That'd be fine as well. If anyone prefers a trusted mod / dev of the community hold the money as an intermediary before you start working on the contest, that's fine by me.

Deadline

May 1st. If there is lots of interest and the entered gamemodes are showing great promise, we could delay it to June 1st.

I'd prefer you kept rights to the server and actually run it, and you could call $250 your first donation to support hosting. The crap about open source was so that if you choose not to run a server for whatever reason, someone can pick it up. I really don't want to run a server, but I will if it's the only way to get a good cops and robbers server.

> $250 is a joke tho lmao

Sorry I don't have enough to buy a car to blow on donating to someone who makes a GTA gamemode; previous to this post I had only ever seen "PM me" when it came to cash involved in SAMP/other video games, which I always took to mean "beer money". I figured that half of the budget of FiveM's official contest was pretty reasonable for a single person just wanting to play a fun gamemode.

I checked out your Discord, and some video of LVCNR. I think I tried LVCNR a long time ago and it was a little too complex for me, but I'll take what I can get on V for now. You'll be in first place as soon as you have a public IP on that V server :P

Considering I haven't seen anyone else put up a contest to try to get some stuff out there, I hope this is an incentive for some to try put something together and there's plenty of time to do it.

I probably still have my cops and robbers script sitting around that hasn't gotten very far but if I get time I might go back to it and keep working on it.

Well the way you spoke about it its like you wanted it to be available for everyone. Sorry about that, but yes $250 would be a joke for all that work but if it comes as a donation or something then it's probably a little too generous. Dw lol English is a funny thing

Yeah sorry y'all, didn't clarify enough cause a few people have talked to me about this. I don't want control of the server. I would -prefer- (not required, maybe) the source, in case you fall off the face of the earth and stop hosting the server, but can discuss with winners. My ideal situation is you run the server, cause I'm lazy.

Regardless, here's a good starting point to save some hard work. And I don't suspect enough entries for someone to get 4th while putting tons of work in, but PM me if this happens to you.

Any interest? I doubt anyone is going to beat Kar, so this will be cancelled on Monday if no one has demonstrated the ability and willingness to start, with Kar taking the 1st prize if his server is public by the original end of contest. Would also accept sumo server entries :P or a racing server (not drift), Rage seems to be missing that too. Please people, just give us something to play that's not RP.

I'm working on something like this, but I'm not going to release it. The problem with open source projects like this is that because anyone can start an identical server, the "wrong people" (People who have no skill or desire to advance the project) will always open a server and drive players away from that project. A bad experience with a particular project will deter a lot of people from trying a similar one.
