Sierra Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 Hi. It would be nice to be able to set custom URLs in the browser. Here are the proposed changes along with the current behavior: Allow editing the masterlist's URL. The current URL is immutable and set to https://cdn.rage.mp/master. Allow editing the updater URL. The current URL is immutable and can't be disabled. There are two goals of these changes: Decentralizing Rage MP - these changes will avoid having players depend on Rage MP's servers with no other choice. Redundancy - these changes will increase Rage MP's redundancy, thereby mitigating both attacks and normal operational downtime. Thanks.

RAGE Multiplayer uses private master server API which has another address (well, it doesn't use HTTP/HTTPS at all). 42 minutes ago, Sierra said: Redundancy - these changes will increase Rage MP's redundancy, thereby mitigating both attacks and normal operational downtime. Current uptime of RAGE's web-services is multiple months without any downtime. 42 minutes ago, Sierra said: Decentralizing Rage MP - these changes will avoid having players depend on Rage MP's servers with no other choice. That means it will be impossible to check all RAGE MP servers at one master, does it?
Sierra Posted May 28, 2018 Author Posted May 28, 2018 Hi, thanks for replying. 5 minutes ago, ragempdev said: This is a public master server API. My bad, sorry. 5 minutes ago, ragempdev said: Current uptime of RAGE's web-services is multiple months without any downtime. Although RAGE's web services have performed well, no guarantee can be made about their future performance. Needless to say, as RAGE gets more popular, there will be a bigger pool of people willing to go to extreme measures in order to harm RAGE in any way they can. I have witnessed this happening in another multiplayer mod. 5 minutes ago, ragempdev said: That means it will be impossible to check all RAGE MP servers at one master, does it? In a way, yes. Despite this, the official RAGE masterlist will still hold an essential monopoly, since it is both the default and biggest masterlist. Moreover, it would be quite rare to see a server owner decide to announce their server to a masterlist only a handful of people use when they can just as easily announce their servers on the default masterlist. Once again, I've seen this happen in another multiplayer mod. The official masterlist still has a market share very close to 100%. Thanks a lot for taking your time to read through this. Your reply is appreciated.
